5 Ways To Keep Your Dog Cool This Summer

Here at Boston Barks we know how important it is to keep your best mate cool in the summer heat. We’ve compiled a bunch of different products & tips to help regulate your dogs temperature & keep them safe in the warmer weather ☀️

Ruffwear Cooling Snood

These snoods are the perfect tool to prevent your dog from overheating. Simply soak in water, place around your dogs neck and go! Ruffwear’s cooling technology uses evaporative cooling to help rise your dogs temperature in high heat conditions. Available in two colours, and reversible, your dog will not only be unbothered by the heat, they’ll look good too!

Axel’s Elixir Bone Broth

Bone broth is lowly simmered using only organic and high welfare ingredients. Fortified with salmon, native kelp, nettle, parsley, apple cider vinegar and naturally cold processed sea algae for added antioxidants to help improve your dogs health. Bone broth paws are filled with nutrients and compounds, essential for the healthy function of your dog's joints, skin, immune system and digestion.

Neatly compact into a convenient tray, these treats can be used as an afternoon snack, or added to your dogs meal. These frozen bones are the perfect quick treat to give your dog to help cool them down - it’s just an added bonus that they taste good too!

You can choose from five flavours so your dog has the option of their preferred protein.

Ice Cream

Ice cream is not only a great way to cool your dog down, but also a fun treat to help them relax and destress for the afternoon. Made with all natural ingredients, these dairy free, dog ice creams are always a hit during summer. Perfect for calming your dog or keeping them cool in summer. Available in four flavours, the Billy & Margot ice creams are the perfect, natural, healthy treat for your dog.

Paw Protection

It’s important to note that if it’s warm outside, the pavement will be even warmer. Pavement temperature can double the air temperature and can be one of the more dangerous areas for a dog to walk on. If you’re unsure of what is safe for your dog, the solution is simple! Hold your palm to the pavement for 10 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog!

If pavements aren’t avoidable for your walk, but you still want to ensure your dogs safety, a solution that will prevent burns is a paw protection wax! We stock the Wildbarc WildWax and use it with our own best mates. Wildwax soothes, protects and revives dry and damaged paws. Simply apply a small amount of wax to moisturise and prevent paws from cracking.

Walks

It’s important to know when to walk your dog during the summer months, what temperatures are safe and how to keep them entertained without over-exerting them.

The first thing to be aware of is what temperatures are safe for your dog to walk in. Anything between 15 - 19 degrees celsius is a safe walking temperature for dogs, however a close eye should be kept on them especially with Brachycephalic breeds & overweight dogs. Any temperature above that - Your dog should be closely monitored for signs of heat stroke.

Walks should be limited to early morning and evenings as this is when daily temperatures are at their coolest and safest. Walks within the warmer times should be kept within 10 - 15 minutes as well as in shaded areas to ensure heat stroke is avoided.
